Starting June 16, the staunchly private club will open a section to the public. The Heritage Foundation, a center for Civil War research, programs, and exhibits, is being built on the ground level at Broad and Sansom Streets.

League members are bankrolling the $5 million facility, whose first exhibits will trace the league's history and explore each year of the war.

The foundation, which has not yet determined its public hours, will exhibit a copy of the Emancipation Proclamation signed by Abraham Lincoln, the hat that Lincoln wore in disguise on his inaugural journey to Washington, and a pike used in the raid on Harpers Ferry. Accompanying videos are by History Making Productions, Sam Katz's company.

When she typed the college's name into Google, she added an "e" and La Salle University popped up.
