Out and about

Spike Lee checked out some new Knicks gear at Mitchell & Ness (12th & Chestnut) Friday afternoon. The filmmaker was in town to be honored by the African American Musuem of Philadelphia. Also at M&N last week was Dropkick Murphys bassist/singer, Ken Casey, who picked up some Red Sox and Bruins jerseys, jackets, hats, and T-shirts.

The Boston punk band played the Electric Factory last week.

* Comedian Gilbert Gottfried

stopped for an omelet and English muffin at Mangia at One Bala Plaza Friday morning, after being interviewed by 93.3 WMMR's Preston & Steve, 102.9 WMGK's John DeBella and 95.7 BEN's Marilyn Russell. The squinty-eyed foulmouth funnyman performed at Helium (2031 Sansom) Thursday to Sunday.

* Flyers legend Bernie Parent

and a pal lunched at Dave & Buster's (325 N. Columbus) Thursday. Parent went for tortilla soup and a cheeseburger and fries, and was friendly to fans.

Philly film wins AMC release

Congratulations to local filmmaker Sean Kirkpatrick.

The Kennedy Kenrick grad's "Cost of a Soul" just won Relativity Media's Rogue and AMC Theatres Big Break Movie contest. His film will be released in 50 AMC theaters nationwide April 15. Before that, it screens at the Philadelphia CineFest and also at the Kansas City FilmFest.

Actress Kate Bosworth was among judges of the contest that picked Kirkpatrick's film, shot here and starring Chris Kerson and Will Blagrove. It's the story of two Iraq War veterans who struggle upon returning to Philadelphia after discharge.

Stalberg has a new skill

"I've trained myself to j--- off with my left hand," jokes Committee of Seventy CEO Zack Stalberg, who is recuperating from surgery on a bad tendon in his right hand. The former Daily News editor, the ever-quotable leader of the civic watchdog group, was treated at Jefferson's Philadelphia Hand Center, and will return to work this week.

New project has Tasty location

So what's happening to the old TastyKake factory in Hunting Park? Metro Development is turning it into Bakers Square, a mixed-use shopping center anchored by a ShopRite.

Mayor Nutter, U.S. Rep. Chaka Fattah, state Sen. Vincent Hughes, City Councilman Curtis Jones and state Rep. Jewell Williams will speak at its ground-breaking at 10 a.m. March 25.

Charitably minded

Sixers star Andre Iguodala is hosting a benefit for Stars Within Reach on March 21 at Lucky Strike (1336 Chestnut). The event seeks to raise awareness and funds for programs for children in poverty and those with autism. Sixers Jrue Holiday and Lou Williams and Eagles tight end Cornelius Ingram will join Iguodala for the fundraiser in conjunction with Urban Promise, a children's organization promoting educationand leadership.

the HEADStrong Foundation's Lime Light Gala to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society March 25 at the Hyatt Regency Penn's Landing. Co-hosting the benefit will be Mike Missanelli and Jon Marks of 97.5 the Fanatic and 93.3 WMMR's Matt Cord and Casey Boy. Lauren Hart and Jesse Kyle will perform. The HEADStrong Foundation was created in memory of Nicholas "Head" Colleluori, a Ridley High School lacrosse star who died in 2006 from non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
