Sideshow: A Jonas Brothers surprise

The Jonas Brothers visited fans on familiar turf, making a surprise stop at a suburban New York theater they frequented growing up. The pop stars' appearance at the Palisades Center in West Nyack, N.Y., on Saturday was one of several around the country to promote their new film, Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience.

It was something of a homecoming for Joe, Kevin and Nick Jonas, raised in nearby Wyckoff, N.J. Nick Jonas said at a news conference that they often saw movies at the mall, "so the fact that we're coming back here is really, really, really cool."

Granny wallops Jonas boys

But despite those visits, the teen idols got clobbered by a feisty, pistol-packin' granny at the weekend box office, as the pop rock band failed to live up to the hype about their concert movie.

Tyler Perry's Madea Goes to Jail locked up $16.5 million in ticket sales to claim the top spot for a second straight weekend.

Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience came in at No. 2, with estimated three-day sales of $12.7 million. The studio had hoped for $15 million, which itself paled against wild industry forecasts that reached as high as $25 million.

By comparison, the Jonas Brothers' film finished behind 2008's Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert, which opened to $31.1 million a year ago. That 3-D film, chronicling fellow Disney idol Miley Cyrus, premiered at the top of the charts after playing in just 683 theaters. Jonas Brothers opened in 1,271 theaters.

Slumdog Millionaire, riding high after collecting eight Oscars last week, finished third with $12.1 million, bringing its total to $115 million and giving it the biggest post-Academy Awards weekend for a best picture Oscar winner in 10 years.

White tiger retired

Illusionists Siegfried and Roy - and the Bengal tiger that ended their careers - shared the stage again Saturday night in Las Vegas for a haunting final performance. The brief charity show saw Roy Horn and Siegfried Fischbacher side by side with Montecore, the massive white tiger that brutally mauled Horn during a 2003 performance. Horn limped slowly onstage, often steadying himself on Fischbacher's shoulder, as the two slowly performed a signature illusion.

In October 2003, the tiger sank its teeth into Horn's neck, dragging him offstage in front of a horrified audience. The illusionist, now 64, was partially paralyzed, suffering a damaged neck artery and crushed windpipe. After 13 years and more than 5,000 performances, the "Siegfried & Roy" show at the Mirage immediately went dark, ending one of the most successful shows in Las Vegas history. The Saturday performance at the Bellagio hotel-casino was the highlight of a lavish benefit for the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health. The center, which will treat brain disorders like those Horn now suffers, is set to open later this year in a building designed by architect Frank Gehry.

Bruce Willis sued

Actor Bruce Willis and his production company are being sued in Los Angeles for $4 million for breach of contract. The lawsuit filed Friday alleges Willis Brother Films agreed on a contract with three companies to produce the feature film Three Stories About Joan, which Willis was to star in and direct. The lawsuit alleges that on Sept. 29 Willis quit as director without notice. Phone calls to Willis' publicist and attorney were not immediately returned.
