Inqlings | Boreanaz and the joy of socks

Actor David Boreanaz drew looks in West Chester on Thursday as he strolled East Gay Street in a sleeveless undershirt, lime-green boxers, and these hideous bright-green socks.

It's graduation season, and CBS3 has posted on www.cbs3.com a slide show of school photos of some reporters and anchors. Anchor Alycia Lane says her mother forbade her to wear makeup for her yearbook photo (Class of 1990, Sachem North High in Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.).

Actor

David Boreanaz

drew looks in West Chester on Thursday as he strolled East Gay Street in a sleeveless undershirt, lime-green boxers, and these

hideous

bright-green socks.

He was between takes of the film Our Lady of Victory, the tale of Immaculata's championship 1972 basketball team. Carla Gugino (Entourage) plays Mighty Macs coach Cathy Rush, who in this scene bursts into the bedroom to wake her husband, Ed (Boreanaz).

Boreanaz's socks, which have drawings of leprechauns and read "Luck of the Irish," are a tradition. The Villanova-raised actor thinks they've helped his charmed career (Angel, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Bones).

He picked them up in Ireland in 1997, and "I wear them on day one of every production," says Boreanaz, a Malvern Prep grad and son of 6ABC's Dave Roberts. "Have to be on."

Our Lady of Victory, written and directed by West Chester's Tim Chambers and exec-produced by Villanova's Pat Croce, will shoot all over the western suburbs through late June.

Star turns

M. Night Shyamalan

is looking for two teen boys (any ethnicity, offbeat-looking, likable, 15 to 19) for his next film,

The Happening

, going before cameras in August with

Mark Wahlberg

. Take a nonreturnable snapshot to the open call, 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Heery Casting, 263 N. Lawrence St., just west of Old City. (Think there'll be a line out there?)

FX's It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia will visit soon to shoot exteriors for season three, and Philly-bred creator/star Rob McElhenney will draw on local thespians. WMMR's Kathy Romano will play what she calls a smart-mouthed "hot mom" with a small kid in tow. McElhenney says his dad, Bob, will play a crack addict. "We'll knock out his teeth," he says. (With makeup, presumably.) Costar Danny DeVito will throw out the first pitch at next Sunday's Phils-Giants game.

Romano also has been inked to play a nun in Our Lady of Victory, while WIP comic-impressionist Joe Conklin is growing out his sideburns to play the announcer for the movie's championship game, filming June 16 at West Chester U.

Radio activity

Erstwhile mayoral and City Council candidate

Milton Street

walked into WYSP-FM studios Wednesday to inquire about a talk-show host's job. Guard slapped a visitor's sticker on him, and off he went.

The Barsky Show

spotted him in the halls and pulled him into the studio for a chat on 94.1 about the mayor's race and solving the murder problem.

April's radio ratings show a minor uptick for WDAS-FM (105.3). Among listeners ages 12 and older, the adult urban-contemporary station was fifth; it had been seventh in March. The top four again were light-rock WBEB-FM (101.1), news KYW-AM (1060), rock WMMR-FM (93.3), and classic-hits WOGL-FM (98.1). WMMR again was tops among adults 18 to 34 and 25 to 54. Speaking of WDAS: The call sign "WDAS-AM," heard on 1480 since World War II, is on its way out. Clear Channel, which moved its "Rumba" station to 1480 on May 16, has applied to the Federal Communications Commission to use WUBA.

Briefly noted

Former Eagles wideout

Freddie Mitchell

("fourth and 26") and Phillies first baseman

Ryan Howard

(who's batting something like six for 26) had dinner last Sunday at Pizzicato in Old City.

John Boruk, who covers the Flyers for Comcast SportsNet, and wife Kristine netted a son, Cole, on Thursday. They also have a daughter, Jade.

CBS3 anchor Pat Ciarrocchi got an honorary doctorate from her alma mater, Rosemont College, last weekend.

Most Haunted Live, the Travel Channel show, will haunt Eastern State Penitentiary in Fairmount for seven hours Friday night for a live, interactive show starting at 8, hosted by NBC10's Aditi Roy. Paranormal-seeking Web cameras will be put up all over the historic site. Show info is at www.travelchannel.com/mosthaunted.

Kids from the Eagles Youth Partnership will walk the carpet before Wednesday's preview of the animated comedy Surf's Up at the Riverview in South Philly. So will other birds. Live ones. Penguins Penny and Pete, from SeaWorld in Orlando, Fla.

What? No Domino's?

Glen Macnow

of WIP-AM (610) is now off pizza for six months. He dug through wares of 43 pizzerias during his "Pizza Palooza," won by Tacconelli's of Port Richmond during judging Thursday night. For the finale, Macnow brought in chef

Georges Perrier

, Eagles

Hank Baskett

and

Todd Herremans

, Flyers legend

Bernie Parent

, WIP's

Anthony Gargano

and

Ray Didinger

, and St. Joe's basketball coach

Phil Martelli

. They sampled slices from five finalists; reps from the sixth finalist, Lazaro's of South Street, got lost on the way to Bala Cynwyd and arrived after judging. One other snafu: The inscription on the trophy reads, "Best pizza in Phildelphia." As Homer Simpson might say: "Dough!"
