A Villanova University sophomore died Thursday after he was in a car accident while on spring break in Mexico, university officials said Friday.

William Zimmerman of Far Hills, N.J., was majoring in economics and was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity, officials said.

The Rev. John P. Stack, a university vice president, said in an e-mail to parts of the university community that four other Villanova students sustained injuries in the accident, but they were not life-threatening.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone touched by this tragedy," Stack wrote. "Please keep our students and their families in your prayers, especially the Zimmerman family."

A university spokesman did not have details about the accident.
