Adele shows her support for Kesha at Brit Awards

Adele supports Kesha

Adele, who has sold more records than every singer since Elizabethan versifier Thomas Morley, won best female award at the BRIT Awards on Wednesday. But her speech was about her pal Kesha. "I'd like to take this moment to publicly support Kesha," she said.

Lady Gaga, Demi Lovato, and Taylor Swift also have spoken up for Kesha, who is suing her producer Dr. Luke, alleging he drugged and raped her. A court denied her bid to be freed from her recording contract.

"All I ever wanted was to be able to make music without being afraid, scared, or abused," Kesha said Wednesday on Facebook. Dr. Luke says Kesha's claims are a smokescreen and all she wants is to skip out on her legal obligations.

Bowie love

The awards show opened with Coldplay on "Hymn for the Weekend."

A tribute to the late, great David Bowie included a speech by Annie Lennox.

"For me, it's impossible to mention Bowie's name in the past tense," she said. "Everything he represented as an artist was and always will be vital and incredibly present."

Bowie's music followed, with a performance of "Life on Mars" by Lorde.

A Legend-ary baby girl

"I think I was most excited and allured by the fact that John [Legend] would be the best father to a little girl," Legend's love, Chrissy Teigen, tells People about why she choose the baby's sex during IVF.

"I think he deserves a little girl. . . . He deserves that bond."

Is that a compliment?
