Sideshow: Sarah Palin fires back at PETA

On the shoulders of . . . dogs

Author and inspirational speaker Sarah Palin is giving PETA all it wants of her. She Facebooked and Instagrammed photos of son Trig, 6, standing on the back of their dog Jill Hadassa, wanting to help wash dishes. PETA hated it and called her out. She's woofing back, calling PETA hypocrites, using the Hawaiian term okole (meaning "butt"), and telling PETA to "chill" and "shake it off," a clever cultural reference to Taylor Swift's big hit.

Teresa checks in early

Very early (3 a.m.) on the first Monday morning of the year, Teresa Giudice of Real Housewives of New Jersey checked in to her new digs: the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury, Conn. She has a 15-month reservation, thanks to her conviction last March on charges of bankruptcy fraud and conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud. Hub Joe was with her. Later, he drove the kids to school. He's got a 41-month prison residency pending, which he starts once Teresa is out.

Too much love in the world

We're nosy and proud. Private life? What? We wanna know whether Kate Hudson and Matt Bellamy are or are not asunder. Rumors had them sundering, but look at them, wheeling shopping carts together in a Brentwood grocery store, or doing the Aspen thing with son Bingham, 3. Sure looks like they're not only fine but fine.

Gladiator explains it all

Russell Crowe has had enough! Enough, says he, with all these lady actors moaning about the lack of roles for women over 40! Their problem, says he, is that they want to do only roles in which they're the youngsexypretty! "To be honest, I think you'll find that the woman who is saying that . . . is the woman who at 40, 45, 48, still wants to play the ingénue, and can't understand why she's not being cast as the 21-year-old," he said, honestly, to Aussie mag Women's Weekly, whose readers probably were screaming at him only he couldn't hear.

"Meryl Streep will give you 10,000 examples and arguments as to why that's [Germanic expletive], so will Helen Mirren, or whoever it happens to be," he continued. Russ sees no problem. He himself, a perky young lass of 50, is making movies fit to bust the Ark, which he did in Noah. Why should women ladies be any different, he asks? Why?
