Vivica A. Fox wigs out in Philly

Also: Explorers jam with the Boss and a local hat appears on SNL.

ACTRESS Vivica A. Fox wished she was wearing a wig during the filming of "Sharknado 2: The Second One," the sequel to the kitschy syfy TV-movie. That way, she wouldn't have gotten scalped.

Fox, who was in town doing a catalog shoot for her Vivica A. Fox Hair Collection (vivicafoxhair.com) at Old City's Power Plant, was admiring a braided wig, designed by Kia McKenzie. "We had one bad incident on set," said Fox, who did all of her own stunts. "I fell down and one of my braids got ripped out. I said, 'Holy! I got scalped!' "

Fox describes her character, the love interest of Ian Ziering, as his "chocolate blast from the past," praising the writers for giving the hero a black love interest.

"Sharknado 2" bows July 31, but what about Fox's much buzzed about feud with Beverly Hills "Real Housewife" Brandi Glanville on September's season of "Celebrity Apprentice"?

"I knew my place, played my position, stayed in my lane and tried not to cause too much drama," Fox said coyly about her strategy. "But it jumped off, that's all I'll tell y'all. It'll be an interesting season."

Fox, whose hair-collection line just patented Smartweft technology, which fights lumps and odor, told me that she loves her annual trip to Philly for the shoot because she can visit her family, including her cousin, Mount Airy's Amally Fox. They hit up dinner on Thursday night at Chickie's & Pete's (Packer Avenue near 15th), although lamented having to portion out her crab fries so that she could still fit into the glamour gowns for the shoot. On Friday night, the gorgeous Fox hosted a dinner at Ruth's Chris Steak House (Broad Street near Spruce) for business associates.

Explorers and the Boss

Recent La Salle grad Anthony Lucci and 2013 grad Greg Squassi lived the dream last week when they got up onstage with Bruce Springsteen at his tour stop in Hershey. The crew held up a sign in the pit that read, "Can we jam with the E Street Band?" Bruce obliged and they rocked out to "Tenth Avenue Freeze Out" together. Your friendly neighborhood gossip columnist was at the show and was, to say the least, extremely jealous.

Hats off to SNL

"Saturday Night Live" fans surely caught "Hugs," the newest video by novelty rappers the Lonely Island (including Saturday's host Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone), featuring the oh-so-hot right now rapper/producer/singer/"Happy" guy, Pharrell.

One of the hats sported by Samberg in the video? That would be courtesy of Philly's own resident glamorous taxidermist Beth Beverly, who creates gorgeous accessories from the macabre. (Samberg dons the hat while dressed as a turkey and raps, "Got 'em tucked between my wings like Thanksgiving stuffing.") Television fans might remember Beverly from her time on AMC's taxidermy competition show "Immortalized," where she competed against amateurs to create the best deceased-animal art.

Sexy Single update

Jarret Janako, of the Sexy Singles class of 2013, just signed on with the gossip hounds over at TMZ.

Lois Burak, class of 2010, hit the radio on WPST (94.5 FM) yesterday with the LoLo Show, airing weekly from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Formerly of SiriusXM, the daughter of Philly radio icon Marvin Burak is joined by gay conservative comedian Joe DeLong and Michael Shawn, formerly of Hot 107.9.

Not so 'Grace'-ful

"Grace of Monaco," the story of Philly's own Grace Kelly's (portrayed by Nicole Kidman) time as princess of Monaco, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival last week and, well, critics hated it.

A lot.

The Guardian said that it's "a film so awe-inspiringly wooden that it is basically a fire-risk." The Hollywood Reporter said: "Is it even possible to make a boring film out of this rich, juicy, gossipy material? It would seem so." Vanity Fair, perhaps, had the sickest of burns: " 'Grace of Monaco' is certainly not a good movie, but it's not a tacky trash masterpiece, either. It's just slight and silly, but deluded enough to think it matters. That's the biggest insult of all."
