Why isn't the 'Boy Meets World' sequel set in Philly?

LAST WEEK, the trailer for the Disney Channel's newest offering, "Girl Meets World," premiered, sending ripples of nostalgia through the millennials who grew up with the series' beloved precursor: the Philadelphia-set "Boy Meets World."

But, what's this? The apartment occupied by "Boy"-turned-"Girl" stars Topanga (Danielle Fishel) and Cory Matthews (Ben Savage) is no Philly spot. Turns out the show is set in Manhattan, where Cory and Topanga's daughter, Riley (Rowan Blanchard), learns similar life lessons to her Phillies-obsessed pop.

What gives? Why the change? The local setting of "Boy Meets World" was such a major point of pride for Philly kids of a certain age (think "thirtysomething" for another generation) that I had to know. So I reached out to "Girl Meets World" co-creator and executive producer Michael Jacobs, who served in the same capacity for "Boy Meets World."

"We made it clear that the kids were going to try their luck in New York City in the finale of 'Boy Meets World,' " Jacobs told me via email. "Topanga received an internship at a New York City law firm where she still works, so the family is raising their children there.

"However, Cory's parents and his brother Josh still live in Philadelphia, and Cory and Topanga are very proud of the city that raised them! In fact, Philadelphia is mentioned fondly in [the episode we are shooting this week]."

Perhaps we can expect a visit from the Matthews family then?

"Girl Meets World" has no premiere date set, but it's expected to bow this summer.

11-time Grammy nominee Jazmine Sullivan has been immortalized in the neighborhood she grew up in. A mural, painted by fellow Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts alum Erica Volpe, was unveiled Saturday in Strawberry Mansion on Ridge Avenue between 30th and 31st streets. The singer of "Bust Your Windows" (one of the great all-time breakup anthems) gave a speech praising the work.

* Child star Corey Feldman dined at Caffe Aldo Lamberti (2011 Route 70 West, Cherry Hill) on Wednesday before speaking during New Jersey's Crime Victims' Rights Week about the abuse he suffered at the hands of adults while working as an actor in films like "The Goonies" and "Stand By Me." The vegetarian Feldman ate mozzarella in carrozza, sweet potato gnocchi in Alfredo sauce and a cappuccino mocha. I hear that Feldman's party included nine other guests, including his lady friend and manager.

* Rapper Bun B stopped by Stephen Starr's El Vez (121 S. 13th St.) on Friday night before his Trillest Tour with Kirko Bangz hit the Reserve Wine and Bar Lounge (123 Chestnut St.) Saturday. The man also known as Bernard Freeman, formerly a part of hip-hop duo UGK, dined on the taco sampler, which includes sea bass, beef, chicken, carnitas, pork and mahi tacos.

MMA reality show "The Ultimate Fighter" will celebrate its 19th season Wednesday, and a Philly guy is in its ranks. Anton Berzin will compete on B.J. Penn's team on the Fox Sports reality show. (Frankie Edgar, who hails from Tom's River, N.J., is this year's other team leader.) To celebrate, there will be a viewing party to watch Berzin at SugarHouse Casino (1001 N. Delaware Ave.) starting at 9 p.m. The show premieres at 10 p.m.
