Annoyed by a multilevel marketing scheme

If it walks like a pyramid scheme and talks like a pyramid scheme ...

DEAR HARRY: Last month, I received a telephone solicitation from a company that sounded like a pyramid deal. They called it a multilevel marketing incentive. I listened for a minute or so, told them I was not interested, and hung up. I should have done it sooner.

Now they are really on my tail with calls all day. I keep telling them to go away, but that didn't help, even when my son got on the phone once and really cussed them out. Now, we're both getting calls!

Today was the worst. Two calls during the day and one just now at 10:18 p.m. I now think that they're trying to annoy us rather than sell us. Help!

WHAT HARRY SAYS: These toads are breaking a lot of rules, and some of the penalties are stiff. They may not call after you tell them you're not interested or not to call again. They may not call after 9 p.m.

These multilevel marketing deals are too close to pyramid schemes for my comfort. Let's do two things: stop them in their tracks and prevent similar actions in the future.

Call the Bureau of Consumer Protection hot line at 1-800-441-2555. Give them all the information you have on your caller. Then give yourself peace in the future by joining the National Do Not Call Registry at 1-888-382-1222. You also can register your cellphone. And the registration is permanent.
