Touch 'Em All: Fenway fans honor teary-eyed Wakefield

Carl Yastrzemski played 23 seasons in a Boston Red Sox uniform. Ted Williams and Dwight Evans each played 19 seasons.

Carl Yastrzemski played 23 seasons in a Boston Red Sox uniform. Ted Williams and Dwight Evans each played 19 seasons.

After that trio of fabled outfielders comes knuckleballer Tim Wakefield, who went to the mound at Fenway Park on Tuesday to fling one more floater.

The retired righthander wiped away tears during a pregame ceremony that honored him for his play and for his charitable work, which earned him the Roberto Clemente Award in 2010.

Wakefield also ranks among the immortals as a pitcher: He won exactly 200 major-league games and his 186 for the Red Sox ranks third in club history, trailing only Cy Young and Roger Clemens.

On and off

Capitalizing on the "gotta get some ink" trend among younger fans, the Diamondbacks handed out a great gimmick on Saturday - slip-on tattoos that slide over your arms like a transparent sleeve and give you that Dennis Rodman look. Until you slide it off.

"Arm sleeves could be just the beginning," wrote Steve Henson of Yahoo Sports. "How about a peel-and-paste tattoo patch of Japanese symbols for your neck or ankle or inner thigh? Or a strip of angel wings to tape just above your butt crack? Out on the town you're bold and bodacious, at work you're prim and proper."

Streak ends

Pitchers can't get Matt Kemp out, but a strained left hamstring did. The Dodgers put the outfielder on the 15-day disabled list on Monday.

Kemp, who was the NL player of the month in April, was among the top five in the league in batting average (.359), home runs (12) and RBIs (28), but was at virtually half speed since injuring the leg May 5.

Kemp's streak of playing in 399 games, the longest among active players, came to an end.

Hunter takes a leave

Angels outfielder Torii Hunter took an unplanned leave Monday to deal with the arrest of his son, 17-year-old Darius McClinton-Hunter, who was among five students at Prosper High in Texas arrested on Monday in connection with the sexual assault of another student.

McClinton-Hunter posted $15,000 bail shortly after his arrest and was released from jail.

"This is very tough for a father," Hunter tweeted. "Thanks for ur prayers and support. Be Blessed everyone!"

Mets to host all-stars

MLB officially awarded the 2013 All-Star Game to the Mets Citi Field, which opened in 2009. The Mets last hosted the game in 1964, at Shea Stadium, in a contest notable for a three-run homer by the Phillies' Johnny Callison in the bottom of the ninth that gave the NL a 7-4 win.

He's back

Suspended slugger Manny Ramirez is scheduled to begin a 10-game minor-league stint with the triple-A Sacramento River Cats on Saturday in Albuquerque, N.M.

Barring rainouts, the dreadlocked designated hitter is eligible to be activated by the Oakland Athletics from a 50-game suspension on May 30 - his 40th birthday.

Injury report

The Yankees placed reliever David Roberston on the 15-day DL with a strained muscle in his left ribcage. . . . Minnesota will active first baseman Justin Morneau (sore left wrist) on Wednesday. . . . Centerfielder Jon Jay was placed on the 15-day list (sore shoulder) by St. Louis.
