Dan DeLuca’s Mix Picks: Robyn, Jupiter & Okwess, Bob Seger, and the Nude Party

The Nude Party. This Boone, N.C., foursome probably won't get naked at this Fishtown gig, though a penchant for playing in the raw in their formative years at Appalachian State University is how they got their name. Their self-titled debut, produced by Black Lips drummer Oakley Morrison, is winningly enamored of 1960s rockers from the Kinks to the Velvet Underground to the Rolling Stones. Sixteen Jackies and Stoops open. Monday at Johnny Brenda's.

Fendika. Straight out of Addis Adaba, Fendika is a troupe of Ethiopian singers and dancers dedicated to the Azmari tradition, which is akin to the griot in West African culture, or maybe the role of the folk singer or rapper in pop music music, in that Azmaris chronicle and comment on goings on in the communities they live in. This show is part of  packed week at PhilaMOCA, with Nashville rock band Jeff the Brotherhood on Sunday and a screening of the documentary Queercore: How to Punk a Revolution on Tuesday.  Monday at PhilaMOCA.

Robyn, "Honey." The title track of the due-in-October first album in eight years from the "Dancing on My Own" Swedish club pop and dance music singer. "Honey" was originally heard in an unfinished take in a 2017 episode of Lena Dunham's HBO series Girls. This completed take is fleshed out, and still more sticky sweet.

Jupiter & Okwess. A wickedly funky and wholly original band from Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, fronted by singer Jupiter Bokonji, son of a diplomat and grandson of a healer, who spent his formative music years in Germany before returning to his native country.  A standout act at this year's Xponential Music Fest, the band mixes Congolese rhythms with rock and are back in town on their own headlining tour. Tuesday at MilkBoy Philadelphia.

Bob Seger & the Last Heard, Heavy Music: The Complete Cameo Recordings, 1966-1967. A collection of singles that Seger made in his pre-"Night Moves" and Silver Bullet Band days for Cameo-Parkway, Bernie Lowe, and Kal Mann's Philadelphia label that also put out records by Charlie Gracie, Chubby Checker, and Clint Eastwood. This collection of R&B-schooled Detroit rock includes the Bob Dylan send-up "Persecution Smith" and the James Brown-inspired Christmas song "Sock It to Me Santa." On ABKCO Records.
