Estrada strong again in 2d start

Toronto's Marco Estrada made a run at history for the second straight start and fell short again Wednesday.

Estrada lost his bid for a perfect game on Logan Forsythe's infield single with one out in the eighth inning. He pitched 82/3 innings, striking out 10 and throwing a career-high 129 pitches. Estrada also carried a no-hit bid into the eighth inning of his previous start Friday against Baltimore.

Forsythe barely beat out a slow chopper to third that Josh Donaldson fielded barehanded. Donaldson's throw to first was just a hair too late. The play was challenged, but the call was upheld.

Estrada got a no-decision, but his effort wasn't for naught. Chris Colabello homered in the 12th to lift the Blue Jays over the host Tampa Bay Rays, 1-0.

Pirates put Hart on 15-day DL, recall Volstad

The Pittsburgh Pirates placed Corey Hart on the 15-day disabled list and promoted pitcher Chris Volstad to take his place on the active roster.

The 33-year-old Hart, who's made seven starts at first base and three in right field during his first season in Pittsburgh, is out because of a left shoulder impingement.

Volstad, a righthander, allowed two or fewer runs in six of his past seven starts for triple-A Indianapolis. He was 5-2 with a 3.43 ERA in 76 innings over 14 appearances (12 starts). He will pitch out of the bullpen for Pittsburgh.
