Poll finds support to put Rose in Hall

Let him in.

That's what three out of four people with an opinion on Pete Rose's Hall of Fame worthiness believe, according to a Seton Hall University sports poll.

Rose, Major League Baseball's hits leader who was banned in 1989 after an investigation found he bet on games while managing the Cincinnati Reds, last month made an official reinstatement request to new MLB commissioner Rob Manfred.

Forty-eight percent of people asked said Rose, a Phillie from 1979 to 1983, should be inducted into the museum in Cooperstown, N.Y., according to a news release from the school in South Orange, N.J. Fifteen percent of respondents said Rose shouldn't be inducted into the Hall of Fame, and 37 percent said they had no opinion on the matter.

Wainwright has tendon surgery

Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright had surgery to repair a torn left Achilles tendon, an injury that will sideline him for the rest of the season.

"Everything went well," Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said after the operation. "No surprises, which was probably the best news, and didn't have to use any extra material to reattach the tendon. So now it's rest and recovery for probably the next six to eight weeks."
