A heartfelt sign off ... and what's next

ROB JENNINGS ended his career at 6ABC on Sunday with a heartfelt goodbye. "I don't like goodbyes, so I'm not going to use that word. Instead, I'm simply going to say, 'Thank you.' "

Since then, readers have been hounding me left and right to know who will fill the shoes of the 36-year station vet, and 'cause I love youse oh-so-much, I did some digging.

Although no official decision has been made on who will permanently take over for Jennings, I did get word that Walter Perez, who currently co-anchors weekend mornings, will fill in at 6 and 11 p.m.

Taking Perez's spot for the time being is Eva Pilgrim, who is moving up quickly in the 6ABC ranks after only about seven months with the station.

When a permanent replacement is found to fill Jennings' massive shoes, I'll let you know.

* In a blog post about Jennings' final show, commenter gilligan told a sweet story: "In the '80s, Rob Jennings was covering a story across the street and came into our house to use the phone (tells you how long ago this was). He praised my mother on what a nice house we had (place was a dump). Goes to show what a nice guy he was, always remembered that story. Happy retirement, Rob . . . thanks for the unnecessary compliment!"

"Project Runway" fans were introduced to Dom Streater last Thursday. The 24-year-old West Philly native is a graduate of Moore College of Art and Design (class of '10) and NoLibs' Bodine High School.

"Even though I am one of the younger people on the show, it's also evident I was one of the more mature people. You'll see!" Streater told me about the always tumultuous workroom interactions.

Before she had designs on making it big with Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn, Streater designed on her own under Halcyon Collection. Her work can be purchased at halcyonco.bigcartel.com.

Streater describes her style as a mix of street and punk cultures, infused with a femininity, which is in line with how she views Philly's own aesthetic. "When there was a trend, it grabbed a hold of youth culture and spread like wildfire. [Philly's] younger people would follow trends, but we would make it our own," she said. "Fifty kids would be wearing the same trend walking down around town, but they'd all look different."

When Streater's at home, she likes to shop at Urban Outfitters, but she's also a thrift-store junkie, naming the Salvation Army ("Until that whole fiasco," she said referring to the recent building collapse) and Philly AIDS Thrift. "There's always something crazy going on there," Streater said.

* Former anchor Larry Kane will be on the "Today" show tomorrow between 8:30 and 9 to discuss his book, When They Were Boys, his third and final book about the Beatles, this time about their origins.

* NBC10's Monique Braxton is one of the recipients of the Zion Baptist Church Hope Awards, given to those who have inspired hope in the community. Other honorees include National Urban League president (and Penn grad/former New Orleans mayor) Marc Morial; Ahmeenah Young, president and CEO of the Pennsylvania Convention Center Authority; Lana Felton-Ghee of Lana Felton-Ghee Associates; and Buddy Savin of Savin Funeral Home. * The Eagles cheerleaders will be at Atlantic City's The Chelsea hotel today to compete against emergency responders in flag football, beach volleyball and an obstacle course from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. At 7 p.m., the cheerleaders will unveil their 2014 calendar and hold an "eco-friendly" bikini fashion show.

* The 76ers will hold their 14th annual Beach Bash on Saturday at Jack's Place in Avalon. On-air personalities from 97.3 ESPN will guest bartend, while the new Sixers Dream Team will perform for the first time.

* Former "Office" mate Kate Flannery (an Ardmore girl at heart) dropped by McGillin's Olde Ale House for a drink. Turns out, she met a fan from Scranton, the setting of her former fictional workplace, while having a beverage.
