Major Road Projects in the Region
PENNSYLVANIA
Philadelphia
I-95/Girard Avenue: The $39 million reconstruction of 1,200 feet of Interstate 95 just south of the Girard Avenue interchange. Crews are replacing bridges over Shackamaxon Street, Marlborough Street, and Columbia Avenue. Construction began in late 2012 and is scheduled to finish in spring 2015.
I-95/Cottman Avenue: A $212.3 million project to rebuild the Cottman Avenue interchange and 1.4 miles of I-95 between Cottman Avenue and Bridge Street. Construction began in 2012 and is slated for completion in 2016.
Market Street west: From 46th to 63d Streets, with ongoing signal and street construction to be completed by summer.
Stenton/Godfrey Avenues: From Evergreen to Front Streets, with signal upgrades and curb realignments to begin in summer.
Haverford Avenue: From 40th Street to City Avenue, with signal upgrades and curb realignment to begin in late fall.
Bustleton Avenue: Signal upgrades to begin late summer to early fall.
Woodland Avenue: Signal upgrades to begin early fall.
N. Delaware Avenue: Extension from Lewis to Orthodox Streets, with new bridge and road construction to begin by late fall.
Delaware and Philadelphia
I-95 bridges: A $21.7 million project to repair 28 bridges on Interstate 95, through November 2015. Crews will work the next few months between the Walt Whitman Bridge and Broad Street interchange.
Chester County
U.S. 202: Construction is under way to widen 6.2 miles of U.S. 202 to six lanes from just south of the Chesterbrook interchange to the U.S. 30 interchange in Tredyffrin and East Whiteland. Work began in 2011 on this $169 million project, and it's slated to finish in May 2016.
Bucks County
U.S. 13: Construction began in January on a $36.5 million project to rebuild 4.3 miles of U.S. 13 (Bristol Pike) between Route 413 and the Levittown Parkway in Bristol Township, Bristol Borough, and Tullytown. Work is to finish in October 2015.
Street Road, Solebury: Ongoing bridge work to be completed by the end of June.
Gayman Road, Plumstead: Bridge work to begin in June, to be completed in about five months.
Montgomery County
Markley Street: Work began in February in Norristown on the first of two construction contracts to improve Markley Street from Main Street to Johnson Highway in Norristown. The initial $20.8 million project will rebuild and improve 1.1 miles of Markley Street between Elm Street and Johnson Highway, and a half-mile stretch of Johnson Highway between Markley and DeKalb Streets. Work is to end in fall 2016.
U.S. 422/Route 363: Work will start in August or September to complete the interchange of U.S. 422 and Route 363 (Trooper Road) in West Norriton and Lower Providence.
Montgomery and Chester
U.S. 422. A $73.3 million project to rebuild 1.6 miles of U.S. 422 from about a mile east of the Armand Hammer Blvd. interchange to the Route 724 interchange in Lower Pottsgrove and North Coventry Townships. Construction started in fall 2012 and is to last five years, involving new bridges and pavement.
NEW JERSEY
Camden County
"Direct Connection": A massive $900 million project to reconfigure the spaghetti-like confluence of Interstate 295, Interstate 76, and Route 42, in Gloucester City, Bellmawr, and Mount Ephraim. Work on the first phase is to be completed by summer 2015.
Collings Avenue: In Camden, $1.5 million bridge deck replacement over Interstate 676.
U.S. Routes 30/130: A $25.7 million project from the PATCO rail bridge in Collingswood to North Park Drive in Pennsauken, to widen the highway and replace bridges over the Cooper River and Haddon Avenue.
Route 70: In Pennsauken, replacement of bridge deck over Route 38, scheduled to start this month.
U.S. 30: Resurfacing in Berlin, Lindenwold, and Clementon. Scheduled to start this month.
Burlington County
U.S. 130: An ongoing $5.1 million project to rebuild the bridge over Crafts Creek linking Florence and Mansfield, to be completed in early summer 2014.
Gloucester County
U.S. 322: An ongoing $8.1 million project to replace the bridge over Raccoon Creek and Mullica Hill Pond in Harrison.
