Laura Kenney's parents left their four-bedroom Fitler Square home in 1992 to move to Massachusetts to care for her grandparents. Kenney made the purchase official in 1994.

"We were lucky that my parents had moved into this neighborhood in 1979 and that it has continued to improve," she said.

In the intervening years, they have done quite a bit of work to update the family home, replacing flooring on the first and second floors, installing built-in bookcases and shelving and even creating a laundry chute from the third floor to the basement.

"I love the tiny details," Kenney said. "An exposed beam in the third-floor walk-in closet, cedar closets under the stairs in the basement, a heat lamp in the second-floor bathroom, shelving in the attic."

In addition to the upgrades, the home features oak hardwood flooring and plenty of storage space throughout. A working fireplace in the living room provides a nice focal point. The dining room boasts overhead glass display cases leading to a newer open kitchen.

Outside, the property includes a brick-paved backyard behind privacy fencing.

"It's an old house with lots of modern amenities," Kenney said.

Living on the tiny Fitler Square street for decades, they are used to the rhythms of the neighborhood.

"Bonsall Street is a little street where all of the neighbors know each other," Kenney said. She mentioned that neighbors gather once a year for a block party to catch up.

The street's central location has kept their attention for years, and Kenney said they especially enjoy the access to neighborhood parks.

"The Schuylkill River bike path is wonderful not only as a park but as a conduit for bike riders to many parts of the city," she said. The property is also within walking distance to Taney Park and Rittenhouse Square.

Nearly a generation later, Kenney said they listed the home so that they can fulfill their own family duties.

"Now it's time for us to move up to Massachusetts and take care of my parents," Kenney said.

The home is pending sale for $550,000.
