On The Market: Converted Cigar Factory loft offers options in NoLibs

In 2005, a cigar factory on North Fourth Street had just been converted to the Cigar Factory Lofts. Michael Doctor and his family were immediately drawn to its history and the elements developers had preserved in its rebirth.

“The Cigar Factory is a really beautiful building,” Doctor said. “From the exposed brick and beams to the oversized windows, this loft really complements and allows the building’s character to shine through.”

When they purchased the unit, its original layout included two bedrooms. While the new condo didn’t require any work before moving in, Doctor said they did decide to take down the bedroom walls for the second room.

“It wasn’t needed at the time, but they can be easily replaced,” he said.

As it stands now, the 1,683-square-foot condo includes one large master bedroom with an en-suite bathroom as well as another separate full bathroom.

The master bath includes a jetted tub along with dual vanities and a separate shower.

“We love the large bathrooms and the walk-in closet in the main bedroom,” Doctor said.

Knocking out the walls to the second bedroom allowed the family to expand the living space in the unit.

“Having a flexible floor plan has been really fantastic,” Doctor said.

It has also allowed unfettered access to the windows that dominate one side of the unit.

“One side of the loft is an entire wall of oversized windows that has an unbelievable view of the city skyline and bridges,” he said.

The Northern Liberties neighborhood has changed and grown substantially since the family bought their unit.

“Between new shops and restaurants opening all the time and tons of neighborhood festivals and farmers markets, there is always something to do,” Doctor said.

As much as the vibrant community might make selling their home easier, he said he thinks buyers will ultimately be attracted by two familiar amenities: “Deeded garage parking with elevator access to your floor is so convenient!”

After more than a decade in the home, Doctor said the family has decided it’s time to sell. Moving closer to children and grandchildren has become a priority.

“We’re looking at moving outside of the city,” he said.
