Rosemary Español came from a large, Italian family, so when she was house hunting 25 years ago, she knew space would be important to her.
"I had family and guests visiting and staying with me," she said.
A 3,200-square foot townhome in Society Hill offered plenty of space.
"The home when I purchased it had a lot of potential, but needed major renovations," she said.
Español estimates that about 75 percent of her renovation work was done to create open entertaining areas.
"It made entertaining and housing guests easy," she said.

"I loved the second-floor master suite," Español said. "We spent a majority of time there after work."

Español said she and her husband have enjoyed living on their block of Delancey Street, known locally as the street of flags.
"Although the City of Philadelphia is large, Delancey is a slice of comraderie not often found in large cities," Español said. "Our neighborhood has everything to offer – good schools, wonderful neighbors, close to restaurants and the city sights."
Español said that while the couple has enjoyed living on one of the most charming streets in the city, it was time to downsize.
"Although I loved my home of over 25 years, my husband and I wanted to simplify our lives," she said. "We have moved to a smaller space to accommodate our lifestyle. "
