Aetna signs contract extension with Main Line Health

Aetna, a major health insurer in the region, announced that it had signed a two-year contract extension with Main Line Health. The new contract, which goes into effect Sunday, includes financial incentives for Main Line Health to improve quality and efficiency measures.

Main Line, which owns four acute-care hospitals, has performed well in the first six months since splitting from Jefferson. Its net patient revenue was up 8 percent in the six months ended Dec. 31, compared to the same period the year before. The nonprofit's operating income was up 19 percent in the same period.
