ATLANTIC CITY - Gov. Corzine was scheduled today to sign a bill that would ensure Atlantic City's 11 casinos remained open during any future state government shutdown.

A shutdown in 2006 closed the casinos for three days, resulting in lost gambling revenue in the millions of dollars.

The key to the law would allow casinos to self-regulate in the absence of state inspectors. If they were caught doing anything wrong, the governor could immediately close them and increase penalties for breaking state rules.
