The international engineering group that developed the methods used by hundreds of millions of people to send e-mail, view web pages and use the Internet to make phone calls will meet in Philadelphia next week.

About 1,500 members of the Internet Engineering Task Force, from 40 countries, will gather Sunday to Friday at the Marriott in Center City. Their assignment, according to organizers, is to "refine the technical standards that make the Internet work" for its estimated 1.5 billion users.
