Chestnut Hill Hosp. decides to keep obstetrical services

Chestnut Hill Hospital will continue to provide obstetrical services, Chestnut Hill Health System announced today.

A review committee has been meeting for several weeks to decide the program's fate. The committee recommended consolidation of the hospital's obstetrics and gynecology practices to two locations from four.

Citing financial problems, several hospitals in the region have stopped delivering babies in recent years.

Chestnut Hill and other hospitals are now seeking more state support for obstetrics care, which they say is a money loser, especially when it comes to caring for poor women.
