Acts Retirement-Life Communities named Gerald T. Grant, who has been with the Montgomery County organization for more than 30 years, its new president and chief executive.

Grant, Acts' longtime chief financial officer and more recently its chief operating officer, succeeds Mark Vanderbeck, who died suddenly last month while on a business trip to Georgia.

"Acts is fortunate to have someone of Jerry's character and experience with the organization," John L. Esterhai, Jr., Acts board chairman, said in a news release.

Based in West Point, Acts describes itself as the largest not-for-profit owner, operator, and developer of continuing-care retirement communities in the United States. It has 22 CCRCs in eight states, with 9,100 residents and more than 6,000 employees.
