Fast work by a staff member and a guest helped save the life of a man found underwater at a Wildwood Crest motel pool Saturday.

Greg Subiszak, 34, of Fairlawn, NJ, was in critical condition at Penn Presbyterian Hospital in Philadelphia.

He might have drowned, though, if Gerald Carter, a maintenance worker at the Aztec Motel, on the 400 block of E. Lavender Road, hadn't jumped in the water and pulled Subiszak from the bottom of the pool about 8:22 p.m., Wildwood Crest Police said. A guest at the hotel, Kristie Gammon, also helped pull the man out, and then gave him CPR until rescue workers arrived.

The incident remains under investigation by police.
