PHL update: airport open, some flights resuming

The airport said airlines expected to resume regular flight operations on Wednesday.

US Airways and American Airlines, Philadelphia's dominant airline, will have about 15 arriving flights Tuesday afternoon, and planned operate its evening departure to Tel Aviv, Israel.

"We plan to resume normal operations Wednesday afternoon with approximately 70 percent of flights operating," American spokeswoman Victoria Lupica said.

Delta Air Lines was operating most flights Tuesday from Philadelphia, including to Atlanta, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Salt Lake City, and Detroit, the airport said.

Southwest Airlines planned to resume a full schedule Tuesday afternoon.

United Airlines was to have one arriving flight Tuesday evening.

Spirit Airlines told the airport it would operate a regular schedule Tuesday.

Air Canada was to resume one flight to and from Toronto Tuesday evening.

British Airways was to operate an evening flight to London from Philadelphia Tuesday.

Jet Blue, Frontier Airlines, and Qatar Airways canceled all flights Tuesday in and out of Philadelphia.

Travelers were urged to check flight status with their airline; call 1 800 PHL.GATE, or check on the airport's website www.phl.org.

As of 11 a.m., 5,107 flights nationwide out of a total of 28,398 were canceled, according to FlightView.com, a flight tracking and travel information website.
