Abington Health is leaving Noble Health Alliance because of its pending merger this year with Jefferson, Larry Merlis, Abington's president and chief executive, told employees and physicians in a letter Tuesday.

The alliance was founded in 2013 by Abington, Aria Health, Crozer-Keystone Health System, and Einstein Healthcare Network to build a clinically integrated network of doctors and health systems to better coordinate and manage health care.

Though Abington is withdrawing as an owner of Noble, the Montgomery County health system will continue as a participating provider for employees of the other Noble health systems through 2017.

"Noble remains fully committed to its goal of developing a clinically integrated network that will improve the quality and efficiency of healthcare," the organization said in a statement.
