The Pennsylvania Health Department on Monday announced changes to way the department responds to environmental health complaints related to Marcellus Shale drilling.

The Pennsylvania Health Department on Monday announced changes to way the department responds to environmental health complaints related to Marcellus Shale drilling.

The department said it has adopted a new policy requiring written responses to all environmental health complaints. It also promised to better coordinate with the state Department of Environmental Protection to respond to complaints about health concerns.

The actions follow news reports that the department had discouraged staff from talking to people who had drilling-related health complaints.
