Amoroso's Baking Co. will be able to sell most of its truck routes to independent operators, according to a contract approved Sunday by the drivers, members of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 463.

Of the approximately 70 drivers now employed by the bakery, 20 who did not choose to purchase routes will be laid off.

Another 25, based on seniority, will remain company employees through 2015, when all the routes will become owner-operated. Those 25 made concessions to keep their jobs for four years.

The rest of the drivers bought the routes from the West Philadelphia baker of hoagie rolls and other bread products. -Jane M. Von Bergen
