SRS Energy, a developer of solar roofing products, intends to open a manufacturing plant in Lower Providence Township, Montgomery County, by the first quarter of next year.

SRS said an initial 50 jobs would be created at the new production facility.

The Philadelphia-based company has developed the Solé Power Tile system, the first curved solar roofing tile designed to seamlessly integrate with Mission-style clay tile roofs popular on the West Coast and in the Southwest.

SRS said it is financing the renovation of the Montgomery County plant with a low-interest machinery and equipment loan and multiple state grants aimed at bolstering Pennsylvania's green economy.

SRS Energy and US Tile are currently launching their integrated solar tile system in certain West Coast markets, and will begin a nationwide rollout in spring 2010.    - Diane Mastrull
