What Japan Airlines wants even confuses AMR chief

The saga of Japan Airlines, in desperate financial shape and looking for help, is confusing enough to the outside world but even the airline executives involved in discussions of investing in the carrier don't seem to know what's going on. JAL has offers pending from Delta and American, and the airline partners of the two carriers, about an infusion of cash. But where things stand is unclear to AMR CEO Gerard Arpey, according to a Dallas Morning News story today. More detail about American's latest offer can be found here.

How U.S.-based business-travel groups view the ramifications of whether American or Delta wins the battle was expressed in an article last week that I missed. The Business Travel Coaltion (which we know is based in Radnor, PA, with an office in Brussels, despite what this story says) says it would be better for competition for JAL to stick with American, its current alliance partner. Find that one at this link.
