US Airways adopts procedures for long tarmac delays

If you read yesterday's Winging It column about airlines bemoaning tough new federal tarmac-delay rules, you may find this welcome news. US Airways has adopted new procedures for dealing with long tarmac delays, three weeks ahead of implementation of tough new federal rules for how customers should be treated  information. Inquirer beat reporter Linda Loyd explained some of the new procedures in a story today found here that also quotes the Business Travel Coalition's Kevin Mitchell about a problem the new procedures don't deal with: overscheduling at the New York-area airports.

US Airways revealed the new procedures in a weekly employee newsletter that arrived in my inbox late Friday, after my deadline for the column. The column may have had a different focus had I known it was coming, but that's OK. The travel media (and the Winging It column and blog) are likely to be loaded with articles in the new few weeks about how airlines will cope with the policies, so check back here often.
