Are companies being pound foolish in business travel choices?

Some companies may be wasting more money than they're saving by moving meetings away from resorts. I'm at the Association of Corporate Travel Executives annual conference in Washington today and heard the results of an enlightening survey on how businesses have canceled some of their meetings because of the perception that they were wasting stockholder (and maybe taxpayer) money, but then rescheduled the meetings in a city that actually cost more money.

About 60 percent of 110 travel managers queried said that their company had canceled a meeting because of the way they thought it would look. Las Vegas has sufferfed from this movement in particular. Association president Doug Weeks said this as "a radical departure" from using common sense in the way travel managers have operated for years.

I'll tell you more about this and other information of the business travel conference in days ahead.
