Off the grid yesterday and didn't get a chance to post anything about Southwest's code-sharing agreement with WestJet, the low-fare Canadian carrier. Read the AP story at the link below and you'll see it's not starting until next year and details aren't available yet about how extensive it is. What we know: Southwest has been talking about international service for several years now and this is an indication of how it wants to do it: using code-share deals with other carriers serving North America and the Caribbean. Southwest has no plans to buy a Boeing Dreamliner when they finally fly and start service to Paris.

A code-share agreement would provide for joint ticket sales and marketing of Southwest and WestJet flights at airports they both serve (now all in the West), and then sharing the revenue from the joint sevice. Here's how it could someday help a PHL-based traveler: Southwest could sell you a through ticket on a nonstop to Las Vegas, where you board a WestJet 737 to Vancouver or another Canadian city. The service would compete with other major airlines that offer connecting service through Detroit, Chicago, Denver, DFW, Minneapolis/St. Paul or Canada. Learn more at this link:
