Warming up: Heat Wave No. 6

It won't be quite as intense, but it isn't going to snow.

While the death toll cas ontinued to climb from last week's siege of brutal heat, yet another hot spell is brewing.

Heat wave No. 6 is due to start tomorrow, and peak on Friday and Saturday with temperatures hitting the mid-90s.

The National Weather Service this morning stopped just short of raising the flag but advised that warning or advisories of some type may be needed. The heat indexes will not approach the 119 of last Friday

Regardless, the fresh pulse of heat should assure that this month will become the warmest ever in Philadelphia.

Our best estimate is that July will come in with an average temperature of 82.4, comfortably -- or uncomfortably -- ahead of 1994, the reigning king at 82.1.

If this feels familiar, July 2010 is currently in second place at 81.7.
