Snow: 11:30 update

Accumulating snow about over.

The last of the big bands has rippled through the region, and the accumulating snow should be ending.

Snow showers and flurries could continue through the day, but given the February sun, it would be hard for lighter snow to add to the totals, says meteorologist Valerie Meola, meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Mount Holly.

The totals should come in a little on the light side of the forecasts -- but not all that much. Expect a general figure of 6 to 10 inches in the immediate Philadelphia area, with more to the north and less to the south.

Although the sequence of events unfolded on the storm's own idiosyncratic timetable, overall the computer models and the people who interpret them did a decent job of capturing the storm's bizarre behavior.

They correctly predicted that the worst of the storm would occur after it passed well to the north of the region, the opposite of the usual pattern. They nailed the winds.

The facts that the storm passed farther off the coast than expected and that temperatures held near or above freezing yesterday held down the snow totals.

This afternoon, even if it makes little more than a cameo, you will see the February sun work its magic.Odds are that the main roads should merely be wet for the afternoon commute.
