Snow, rain ... drought?

Year off to wet start, but drought advisories stick.

Despite the snow threat and a wet start to the new year, the entire region remains under drought advisories.

Pennsylvania state officials said Thursday that it had decided to extend its drought watch in Philadelphia and the neighboring counties.

And New Jersey continues its drought watch for Burlington, Camden, and Gloucester Counties.

In the early going, Philadelphia has measured 0.73 inches of precipitation, or about double normal.

But over the last 90 days, precipitation has been about 25 percent below normal throughout the eight counties, according to the Middle Atlantic River Forecast Center.

In its Thursday update, the U.S. Drought Monitor has portions of Bucks County in severe drought and most of the rest of the region in moderate drought.

At least we don't have to worry about major flood threats, at least for now.
