Phillies to get cold reception.

It may even snow, as Phils start season in Eagle weather.

We've seen a couple of outlooks suggesting excellent baseball weather in April, and we've also seen enough long-term outlooks not to take them seriously.

In the short-term, it appears that when the Phillies head north this week they will encounter weather more appropriate for an Eagles' game in December.

Strong Canadian high pressure continues to press cold air southward, and two storms are likely to come tantalizingly close this week.

The high pressure is putting the air on a dry cycle, and this afternoon the humidities are going to fall to near desert levels, thus the weather service has posted a "fire danger" alert.

That's going to change.

The computer models so far are showing more variance than pre-season baseball predicitons, but they do agree on the cold and the general proximity of storms.

Right now the National Weather Service is going with "likely" for precipitation at midweek, with a mighty close call between rain and snow in Philadelphia.

Yet another, potentially major storm, could develop on opening day, which happens to be April 1, and that's no April Fool's joke. Here's the weather service discussion.

In the meantime, temperatures will continue to stay well below normal.
