There's another 'Rocky' movie coming and this one's about Apollo Creed's grandson

Sylvester Stallone is going to be Rocky, yet again, thanks to a new project from Fruitvale Station director Ryan Coogler. MGM is set to have the 27-year-old director write the script for Creed, a continuation of the Rocky story that will see Apollo Creed's privileged grandson take up boxing against the wishes of his family.

The star of Coogler's Fruitvale Station, Michael B. Jordan, is set to take on the lead role.

The intention is for Jordan to play the grandson of Apollo Creed (played in the early movies by Carl Weathers). Raised in an upper-crust home thanks to the ring riches earned by his grandfather, the young man doesn't have to box and his family doesn't want him to. Yet, he has the natural instinct and gifts and potential that made his grandfather the heavyweight champion until Rocky Balboa took his crown in 1979′s Rocky II. Creed's grandson needs a mentor and turns to Balboa, who is out of boxing completely and not eager to return.

Creed came together because, when Coogler signed with WME, he mentioned that the film was a dream project of his. The agency hooked him up with Stallone, who's busy with the Rocky musical (really) and, together, they approached MGM.

Say what you want about another Rocky film, but Rocky Balboa wasn't all that terrible and it's been a long time since the fifth installment left that awful taste in our mouths. And, if you've seen Coogler's brilliant work and Michael B. Jordan's convincing performance in Fruitvale Station, some hesitant optimism might be in order. [Deadline]
