New Jersey gets the Comedy Central treatment on ‘Drunk History’

Comedy Central’s Drunk History returned for its third season Tuesday night, with the show setting its comedic sights clearly on the great state of New Jersey — and not because of Snooki, either.

Comedy Central's Drunk History returned for its third season Tuesday night, with the show setting its comedic sights clearly on the great state of New Jersey — and not because of Snooki, either.

Instead, Drunk History went a little further back for its material, focusing on historical events and figures like Hoboken native and aeronaut Thaddeus Lowe, who attempted to steer the Civil War toward military ballooning.

Also included in Drunk History's season three premiere was the story of Bell Lab's Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson, who made discoveries regarding cosmic microwave background radiation that ultimately would help support the Big Bang Theory. Ditto for the 19th century "Bone Wars," which details (however drunkenly) the battle for South Jersey's marl pit fossils.

Presenters for the New Jersey episode include writer Tess Lynch, The Office's Mark Proksch, and Parks & Recreation's Jenny Slate, with the latter being Drunk History's standout presenter.

"Slate picks up that ball and kicks it into space, pushing the episode into wacky, yet still grounded, territory," wrote the AV Club of Slate's performance. "She's the perfect Drunk History narrator: Silly but focused."
