TMZ is reporting that Manti Te'o dated a St. Mary's student for about two months after his previous "girlfriend," "Lennay Kekua," "died." Alexandra del Pilar allegedly met Te'o the weekend of the Notre Dame/Boston College game in November. There's a picture, reportedly of the couple, sitting on Santa's lap. Tweets from what appears to be Pilar's account indicates that, at the very least, the two knew each other. TMZ's sources say that the couple broke up recently.

He was involved from the beginning to pump up his stature ahead of the draft. Glad it backfired on him

I am just lost as to why anyone really cares if his girlfriend, is made up, real, died, alive etc. He hasn't taken any drugs, cheated, killed anyone, didn't cheat on his grades etc. If this is all the media has to talk about I'll go back to the comedy channel or cartoon network.

The reason people care is he used the sympathy from this lie to bolster his PR and for personal advancement - regardless of what this "devout mormon" says. And people care because Notre Dame immediately casted him as an innocent victim, when any half-brained moron who can read past a 2nd grade level can follow the timeline and see this creep was in it deep. And I hope people care enough to dismiss him as a narcissistic liar.

It would be nice if ESPN would do a little introspection and realize how its incessant hunger for "young athlete overcomes tragedy to prevail" stories contributes to young, naive athletes' getting involved in messes like this.

I can understand why he had a cyber-girlfriend. Being a superstar athlete (with a multi-million-dollar contract in his immediate future) at a major university, it's very hard to meet women.

If I were to believe his hoax story, I have one question for Mr. Heartbreak. If you only met her online and spoke to her on the phone (every night for 4 months), how did you learn of her death?
How does a dead woman inform you of her death.

OK 1 more question: When ESPN asked to contact the family, he told them the family did not want to speak with the media. Was there a fake family too? Alright, 1 more, you never visited your sick girl during all this time? Even when she was at death's door? The love of your life? The most beautiful woman you ever MET?
