Kimmel Center responds to Josh Groban’s radio show comments

What happens when you try to jack the prices on Josh Groban tickets? You don’t get Josh Groban.

What happens when you try to jack the prices on Josh Groban tickets? Simple, you don't get Josh Groban.

Groban chatted on The Chris Stigall Show on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT Tuesday about his upcoming show in Philly, which Stigall thought was to be at the Kimmel Center September 16. But Groban had other plans when he found out what the venue was planning to do.

"They're the only venue that we booked where they wanted to charge an extra $20-something to the fans and we said, 'If you do that we're going to move venues' and they said 'Well, we're gonna do it,' so we said, 'Ok.' They tried to gouge the fans in ways other venues weren't doing so we left."

Since that whole debacle, Groban moved his Philly show on September 16 to The Tower Theater, where he said he actually played his first Philly concert.

Groban also expressed his appreciation and excitement for coming back to Philly.

"Philly is a city that has so many great venues and so many great musicians, of course, that it naturally attracts the best. I'm excited to get back here"

The Kimmel Center has since released a statement in response to Groban's interview.

Statement from The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts

We were surprised by the comments made by Mr. Josh Groban this morning during a radio interview in Philadelphia. The Kimmel Center worked very closely with our co-presenting partner LiveNation on this concert, and they decided to go to the Tower Theater before our negotiations were complete. Unfortunately, Mr. Groban was ill-informed. The Kimmel Center's ticketing system is on par with other performing arts centers both locally and nationally, providing a valuable patron experience among its campus-wide venues. The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts is a world-class performing arts venue that serves broad and diverse audiences from throughout Greater Philadelphia. A part of our mission is to bring quality programming and talented artists to the wonderful people living in our great city.
