Chris Christie weighs in on Bill Cosby scandal: ‘It makes me sick’

Following President Obama's comments on the matter, N.J. Gov. Chris Christie has weighed in on the dozens of sexual assault allegations against Bill Cosby, saying that the situation "makes me sick."

"Let's focus on what's really important here, which is the conduct," Christie told CNN today. "And the conduct is reprehensible. As the father of two daughters, it makes me sick."

Christie, one of many Republic presidential candidates, also addressed the legal elements of the Cosby scandal and agreed that "we need to examine … laws" that prevent prosecution when "the evidence is there."

"You don't want to always change laws just to deal with one circumstance," he said. "But the fact is, if the law permits prosecution and the evidence is there, he should be prosecuted. And if it doesn't, then we need to examine those laws on a going-forward basis and see what we may need to do."

Overall, however, Christie stressed how "incomprehensible" the Cosby scandal is, especially as someone who was a Cosby Show fan.

"The thing that I focus on the most as a father is just how incomprehensible it is to me that someone — if what he did and what's alleged is actually what he did — that someone in a position of authority and influence and esteem in this country — I watch The Cosby Show."

"The fact that he would engage in that kind of conduct, if that's what he did," Christie added, "is just sickening."

Cosby, for his part, has never been charged with a crime in connection with the dozens of sexual misconduct allegations against him. Most recently, a judge unsealed 2005 court documents in which Cosby admitted to having procured Quaaludes for sex.
