Weather woes be gone: Entertainment locked indoors

When Mother Nature gives us a taste of wet, cold weather, planning outdoor activities on your day off isn't really an option.

Instead of sitting on the couch and using the excuse "It's gross out, I don't feel like doing anything," there are a handful of indoors fun spots to keep you occupied.

Everybody Hits (529 W. Girard Ave.)

Lucky for those baseball players out there, they can start their spring training early. Open daily, this indoor batting facility is the perfect spot to practice that swing you've been working on. Hours: Monday-Friday 2 p.m. through 9 p.m., Saturday: 10 a.m. through 9 p.m., Sunday: noon through 9 p.m. Prices start at 16 pitches for $2.25.

Sky Zone (2834 Route 73 North, Moorestown, N.J.)

Need a quick fix on cardio? Sky Zone Indoor Trampoline Park is an arena that is perfect for all those high-flying acrobats in the family. Whether you love to do flips in the air or just jump for joy, this indoor facility is a perfect workout tool. Hours are Tuesday-Thursday 3 p.m. through 8 p.m. (toddler time 9:30 a.m. through 11 a.m.), Friday 11 a.m. through 10:30 p.m. (toddler time 9:30 a.m. through 11 a.m.), Saturday 10 a.m. through 10 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. through 7 p.m. Jumping starts at $12.

Buffalo Billiards  (116 Chestnut St.)

Sink in a hole in one and more at this Old City hot spot that includes two floors of pool tables, a full bar on each floor, dartboards, Skee Ball, arcades, and shuffleboard tables, making this quite the place for anyone who likes indoor gaming. If you need a break from the 8 ball, sit back and enjoy live sports played on one of their 17 HD TVs. Flyers Skate Zone (various locations)

Although Philadelphia has wonderful outdoor ice skating rinks, rain and the random 60 degree weather we get in December can close the rink down for the day. To fulfill your ice skating urges, there are four indoor ice skating rinks located around Philadelphia to occupy us. Ice rink admission is $8 and skate rentals are $3. Hours at each location vary.

Keystone Mini-Golf and Arcade (161 Cecil B. Moore Ave.)

You don't need to wait until the summer to get your putt-putt on. Keystone's golf course offers nine holes of '50s-themed obstacles to putt around with to score that ever-so-challenging hole in one you want to sink. Besides golfing, there are arcades to play around with, and the course is also a BYOB. Hours are Thursdays from 5 p.m. through midnight, Fridays from 5 p.m. through 1 a.m., Saturdays 1 p.m. through 1 a.m., and Sundays 1 p.m. through 10 p.m. Pricing is $8 for adults on Thursdays, $9 Friday-Sunday, and $6 for kids Thursdays, $7 Friday-Sunday.

Go Vertical (950 Penn St.)

Challenge your gripping skills at this rock-climbing facility that features over 250 climbing routes (20 different routes every week), a variety of skill level walls, youth classes, and a climbing school that introduces those who are interested into learning about the sport. Hours are Monday-Friday 10 a.m. through 10 p.m., Saturdays 10 a.m. through 8 p.m., and Sundays 8 a.m. through 8 a.m. Prices start at $14.

Ultrazone (4201 Neshaminy Blvd. #130, Bensalem)

Drop the game controller and become the actual player at Ultrazone. This entertainment center offers a multilevel laser tag facility featuring interactive obstacles and buildings, perfect to strategize the way to victory. When you're done zapping others, visitors can play a wide variety of games offered in their arcade. Hours are Tuesday-Thursdays 4 p.m. through 10 p.m., Fridays 4 p.m. through midnight, Saturdays 10 a.m. through midnight, and Sundays noon through 10 p.m. Standard games start at $6.50.

Speed Raceway (Village Mall, 200 Blair Mill Rd. Suite #100, Horsham)

Mario Kart…just became realistic — without the banana and shell-throwing part at this exclusive indoor go-kart racing zone in Horsham. Guests can get a taste of real racing with live scores and the choice of two tracks to compete on. While you're waiting or taking a break from the speed machines, enjoy a spectator area or play arcade games located in the building. Hours are Monday-Thursday noon through 10 p.m., Fridays noon through 11 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. through 11 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m. through 8 p.m. Racing starts at $20.

Smith Memorial Playground (3500 Reservoir Dr.)

Off of work and stuck with the kids? Don't let the rain ruin their fun, the Smith Memorial Playground offers numerous indoor activities that will keep your children occupied for hours. The three-story mansion features books for kids to read, trains to climb aboard, kitchens to stir up meals, and tons more to give your tots the ultimate "day inside." Museum hours are Tuesday through Sunday 10 a.m. through 4 p.m. (ages 5 and younger). Entrance is free but donations are suggested.

The Funplex (3320-24 New Jersey 38, Mt. Laurel)

Mount Laurel's Funplex is certainly a one-stop destination for all types of thrills indoors and outdoors, but let's just focus on the indoor activities. The 100,000-square-foot building is in no short supply of arcade and virtual games. It has a foam pit to practice your flips in, bowling alleys for those aces in the family, and go-karts to speed around in. Hours are Monday-Thursday noon through 9 p.m. (bowling and arcades) and all other indoor activities from 4 p.m. through 9 p.m., Friday noon through 11 p.m. (bowling and arcades) and all other indoor activities from 4 p.m. through 11 p.m., Saturdays 10 a.m. through 11 p.m. and Sundays 10 a.m. through 9 p.m. Prices vary for each attraction.

North Bowl Lanes (909 N. 2nd St.)

Retro décor and the ultimate 1950s feel of a bowling alley, North Bowl Lanes is a great place to strike down some pins with friends. Besides the bowling, the two-floor building features two full bars, arcades, a photo booth, billiards, and a pretty tasty menu. Try the tater tots. The XL in the name does live up to expectations. This Brunswick Zone located in Feasterville is packed with 48 lanes, six billiard tables, a full bar, an arcade, a food shack, and laser tagging making this place a great time for the whole family to enjoy. Hours are Monday-Wednesday 9 a.m. through midnight, Thursdays 9 a.m. through 1 a.m., Friday- Saturday 9 a.m. through 3 a.m., and Sunday 9 a.m. through midnight. Bowling prices start at $3.99.
