For a night of the opera: Take in a night of Italian sounds with Puccini's "La Boheme," the story of young destitute artists in Paris in the 19th century, with the Academy of Vocal Arts' production of the show at the Helen Corning Warden Theater (1920 Spruce St.). Curtains are at 7:30 p.m.

For a kickoff: The first night of the Northern Liberties Winter Music Festival, a six-night live music jaunt at The Fire (412 W.
