Dug up from the dead: Graveyard shift series at the Roxy Theater

The Philadelphia Film Society has launched a new series of eerie screenings starting on May 9 at 11:59 p.m. The movies listed will be cult classic horrors, typically produced outside of America. For movie buffs, and horror fanatics, staying up late and taking a trip over to the Roxy Theater is well worth it.

Kicking off the Graveyard shift series on May 9 is Suspiria- an Italian horror film directed by Dario Argento. Suspiria is a story involving an American ballet dancer who transfers to Germany to attend a prestigious academy for dance.  When she arrives at Tans Academy in Freiburg, Germany, she discovers that her academy is haunted by a coven of witches.

The second screening of the series is Proxy, on June 13. Directed by Zack Parker in 2013, Proxy is a twisted tale of Esther, a pregnant woman who encounters dark forces while walking home from the doctors.  This thriller will have you on the edge of your seat and guessing what will happen next.

On July 11, you can delve into the world of Norwegian director André Øvreda's Trollhunter, a dark fantasy film involving college students who discover quite the surprise when filming a documentary.

Australian film The Babadook will have viewers up all night in fear on August 8. Directed by Jennifer Kent this year, it  is a super natural thriller involving a mother, her son, and a mysterious book.

Finishing off summer and the Graveyard shift series will be David Cronenberg's Videodrome on September 12. This sci-fi horror involves a CEO of a TV station, and a broadcast signal that causes strange and violent visions. Warning, you may not want to turn on your television when you get home.

Tickets for each screening are $5 for PFS members and a spooky price of $6.66 for non-members.
