CityKids Consignment Sale
The long: Philly's biggest such sale, in its fifth go-round, fills Neumann-Goretti's cafeteria with plush toys, strollers, maternity stuff, and clothing up to size 12, all bargain-priced and benefiting a future South Philly parenting center.
The short: Top-notch, low-priced, secondhand baby stuff.
The demo: Parents, grands, and kids from all around town.
How it works: Show up, line up, stock up. (Bring cash or checks. Credit cards accepted, too, but there's a small fee.)
The merch: Sorted and tagged, with more unworn newborn Carter's than you can count. "Toys fly off the tables first," said Allison Fegel, one of the sale's all-volunteer organizers.
The non-merch: Live music, and nearby schools' friends' groups sell snacks.
The crowd: Last fall, 650 shoppers bought items at the biannual sale.
Wanna consign? Next time. The deadline to get rid of your goods was a couple weeks ago.
Got time? Volunteer and get into the Saturday presale, 8:30-9:30 a.m., and the 50-percent-off "power hour," 3:30-4:30 p.m.
Sunday: Leftover stuff gets deep discounts - up to 50 percent off.
Parking: Free in lot. Strollers park free outside sale area, too.
The basics: Neumann-Goretti High School, enter on South 11th Street between Morris and Moore Streets (SEPTA bus routes 45, 47), 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday, free, southphillyparents.org.
Lauren McCutcheon also missed the deadline to consign her kid's old stuff with CityKids. Maybe next fall.
