Here's a nice little late-morning distraction. 76ers forward Elton Brand played in a charity soccer game Wednesday night, and as you'll see below, he didn't play very well.

The background is as follows. You may know that Phoenix Suns point guard Steve Nash is a huge soccer fan. So much so that he's a part-owner of the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Nash's foundation organizes an annual charity soccer game in New York. It brings together top names from both of the sports he loves for a midsummer kickaround in the heart of Manhattan.

The roster of stars this year was quite impressive. The soccer players included Thierry Henry, Patrick Viera, Claudio Reyna and Giuseppe Rossi; the basketball players included Grant Hill, Baron Davis, Tony Parker and Chris Bosh.

Also among the basketball players was Brand. If you didn't know until now that he was a soccer player, well, neither did I. Judging from these videos posted by Kick TV, I think we can say that Brand should stick to hoops.

Brand suffered two rather embarrasing moments during his time in the game. The first came after Salomon Kalou, the Chelsea and Ivory Coast midfielder, made a run up the middle of the field that featured a couple of fancy stepovers. Kalou sent a pass forward for Brand, and he completely whiffed on a one-time shot attempt.

Here's the other moment. This time, Brand suceeded at controlling a pass from Kalou, but his first-touch shot went straight off the face of Milwaukee Bucks forward Mike Dunleavy, Jr.:

Maybe next year, Nash's charity should invite Jrue Holiday instead. At the very least, he'd be able to get in some good pregame practice with his girlfriend,
