MLS Wrap: D.C. clinches first place in East, Toronto's implosion complete

When I got home from PPL Park on Saturday night, I learned that D.C. United had clinched first place in the Eastern Conference with a win over Chicago. Just as important as the scoreline, though, was the fact that the attendance clocked in at over 20,000 fans. And as you'll see from the video below, it looked the part.

United's seemingly never-ending quest to get its own stadium in the District has made some real progress this year. Once next month's mayoral election is complete, the opportunity will present itself to finally get the project to the point of putting shovels in the ground.

There have been many false positives before. But it can only help to see the four-time MLS Cup champs once again be really relevant on the Washington-area sports landscape.

Meanwhile, up north, Toronto FC's eighth consecutive annus horribilis received its capstone, as the rival Montréal Impact knocked the Reds out of playoff contention. And out west, a tie between Los Angeles and Seattle set up a one-game clash for the Supporters' Shield this coming weekend in the Emerald City.

Here's the video roundup of all the weekend's MLS action.
