WWE Survivor Series 2013 results: John Cena defeats Alberto Del Rio to retain World Heavyweight Championship

John Cena, sans his protective sleeve, and Alberto Del Rio engaged in some old-fashioned wrestling holds in the early goings of the match.

Cena eventually hit a shoulder block, but ran into a hip toss from Del Rio, who then grounded Cena once again with a headlock.

Cena and Del Rio momentarily picked up the pace, but Del Rio slowed it down again by attacking Cena's leg. From there, Del Rio took control of the match.

The action eventually spilled out of the ring where the two began brawling. Del Rio regained control when he tossed Cena into a set of steel steps.

Del Rio rolled the champion back into the ring and maintained control of Cena. Cena tried to take advantage of small openings, but Del Rio kept managing to thwart him at every turn.

After being beaten on for several minutes, Cena finally mounted some offense, but once again, the challenger thwarted him.

Del Rio eventually went for a move through the rope, but Cena moved out of the way, sending Del Rio outside of the ring.

Del Rio barely beat the referee's 10 count, but walked into a flurry offense from Cena. Del Rio recovered quickly and landed some blows to the champion, but Cena built up some momentum and earned a near fall for his efforts.

The momentum swung back to Del Rio again, as he hit Cena with a big kick as the champion climbed to the top rope.

Del Rio then hung Cena upside down from the turnbuckle and charged at him, but Cena once again moved out of the way.

Cena went to the top rope and hit Del Rio with a flying leg drop. Cena went for a cover, but Del Rio kicked out.

Cena then charged right at Del Rio, but the challenger countered into a back breaker. Del Rio then signaled for the cross arm breaker, but Cena countered into the STF. Del Rio managed to crawl to the ropes to break the hold.

Out of nowhere, Del Rio hit Cena with super kick, but came away with only a count of two. Cena the mustered up a neck breaker to Del Rio, but gained only a near fall again.

Cena went back to the rope and attempted a cross body, but Del Rio rolled through and somehow countered into the cross arm breaker. Del Rio locked the hold on solid, but Cena powered out by slamming the challenger to break the hold.

After the two men got back to their feet, Cena hoisted Del Rio up on his shoulders and hit the attitude adjustment to retain the championship.
